Kids In the Garden, Professional Development, and Parent Policy Council; All Help Our School.

Last week, students and teachers gathered to collaborate in a variety of ways. Students embraced the gifts of fall with harvesting and bed clearing in the garden.  Seeds were saved, gourds and squash gathered, and sunflower stalks laid to rest.  Fall planting will begin anew, as our connection to the garden continues to reap rich rewards.  Sewing deep roots helps form a strong community foundation.

Teachers met in our Professional Learning Communities to focus on grade-level instructional strategies in math, providing time and guidance for teachers to examine their teaching and student learning, and to then set goals for the year.  Teachers also shared ideas to help the district better align our district assessments with both math and reading instruction.  This important work is ongoing througout the school year.

This week, our Parent Policy Council (PPC) meets to share, discuss, and make decisions focused on school-wide matters.  PPC combines parents, teachers, and principal in sharing perspectives toward the goal of fostering an enriching, inclusive educational experience for all, aligned with the Family School philosophy. This council is the heart of a teacher-led school, as teacher leaders and family members actively engage in ongoing collaboration, incorporating the wishes of families with the logistics of a public school.
